The University of Missouri has long been home to farm-to-table scholarship. Now Mizzou’s successful hospitality management program is getting a refresh to meet growing demand for employees with college education. MU has retooled its online bachelor of science in hospitality management to create more opportunities for students in the management of all hospitality sectors, particularly in conferences & events, food & beverage sites, lodging facilities, and sports venues.

Missouri’s minimum wage is subject to change each year based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, commonly known as CPI-W. In November, the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations announced the state minimum wage will increase 15 cents to $7.85 effective January 1, 2018.
As we do every year, we are reaching out for help. We need judges for the Culinary Competition and the Management Competition. A required judges’ orientation will be held Thursday evening, February 15, at the Oasis. The competition begins at 7:00 a.m. on Friday and runs until 4:00 p.m.

Competition for employees is also heating up in the restaurant industry. 27 percent of restaurant operators said recruiting-and-retaining employees is the single most important challenge facing their business. This was up from just 9 percent two years earlier.
